About Karnataka
Karnataka spans the ruins of the Vijayanagara empire at Hampi, the Chalukya cave temples of Badami and Pattadakal, the palace city of Mysuru and the misty coffee estates of Coorg and Chikmagalur.
Bengaluru's airport makes it an easy start, and the roads are among India's best.
- Best time
- October to February for Hampi and Badami. Coorg is good year-round except heavy-monsoon July and August.
- Ideal trip
- 5 days for Hampi and Badami; 5 days for Mysuru and Coorg
- Getting there
- Fly into Bengaluru or Hubballi. Overnight trains run from Bengaluru to Hosapete (for Hampi).
- For visitors from abroad
- Hampi has two sides. Most ruins are on the Hampi side, while stays and cafés are also across the river (by coracle or road).
