About Delhi
Most India trips start in Delhi, and it deserves more than a transit night. Three UNESCO sites (Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar and the Red Fort) sit within an hour of each other, and Old Delhi's lanes are still the best food walk in the country.
New Delhi adds Lutyens' boulevards, Lodhi Garden, crafts at Dilli Haat and some of India's best museums.
- Best time
- October to March. Air quality can be poor from November to January; we plan more indoor time on bad days.
- Ideal trip
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Indira Gandhi International Airport has direct flights from most world cities; the Airport Express metro reaches central Delhi in about 20 minutes.
- For visitors from abroad
- The Red Fort and many museums close on Mondays. The Delhi Metro is cheap, clean and has a women-only coach on every train.

On-trip help
Is two days enough?+
Two full days covers the highlights. Add a third for museums, markets or a day trip to Agra.
Where should I stay?+
Central Delhi (Connaught Place, Lodhi Colony or Jor Bagh) keeps drive times short. Aerocity suits early flights.
Can we visit Agra as a day trip?+
Yes. It's about 3.5 hours each way on the Yamuna Expressway, or 1 hr 40 min by Gatimaan Express.
