About Himachal Pradesh

Himachal has a mountain trip for everyone: family-friendly Shimla and Manali, the backpacker cafés of Kasol and the Parvati valley, the wooden villages of Jibhi and Tirthan, and Spiti's high-altitude desert.

Overnight Volvo buses from Delhi make it the easiest weekend Himalaya, and the Atal Tunnel now brings Lahaul within a day trip of Manali.

Best time
March to June and September to November. Spiti's Kunzum Pass is usually open June to October; winter brings snow to Manali.
Ideal trip
6–7 days for Manali–Kasol–Jibhi; 10 days for Spiti
Getting there
Overnight Volvo from Delhi to Manali (12–14 hours) or Bhuntar. Flights to Bhuntar and Shimla are limited.
For visitors from abroad
Rohtang Pass needs an online permit and is closed on Tuesdays. Foreign nationals may need a permit for parts of Kinnaur and Spiti near the border; we check the current rule and arrange it.

In May, June and late December, yes. We stay in Old Manali or Naggar and visit Solang early.

Usually, at Solang and beyond the Atal Tunnel.

Is Spiti suitable for kids?+

For children over 8 who handle long drives, yes. We add an acclimatisation night.
