Quick answer

A 2-day Kanchipuram tour from Chennai (75 km, about 2 hours) visits Kailasanathar, Ekambareswarar, Kamakshi Amman and Varadharaja Perumal temples, with a midday visit to a silk weaver. It costs from ₹7,500 per person. Temples close roughly 12:30–4 pm, so staying one night is best.

Trip Overview

Kanchipuram, one of Hinduism's seven sacred cities, was the Pallava capital, and its temples are within a few kilometres of each other. Because most close around 12:30 pm and reopen near 4 pm, a rushed day trip misses half of them. One night here gives you two cool mornings and two evenings instead.

The hot middle of the day goes to the town's other craft: handloom silk. You visit a weaver's home to watch a saree on the pit loom, learn how to check real zari, and shop at a Silk Mark co-operative with no pressure to buy.
